Myth II will run in Windows (Windows 95 or later), modern Mac OS X (Intel or PowerPC OS 10.4 or later), older Macs (PowerPC, OS 8.6 - 10.3), and Linux (x86).

Windows Myth II InstallEdit

Install/Update Without CDEdit

InstallEdit

If you don't have your original CDs, but have a backup of the "tags" folder from the original CD, just create a folder
Myth II/tags/
full of all the files that the original CD "tags" folder had. To finish the install, follow the instructions below for updating an existing install.

Update Existing InstallEdit

To update an existing install of Myth II (all you need is a "tags" folder), just get the latest Myth II "Windows Installer" from Project Magma's downloads page (as of early 2014, it's version 1.8) to update your Myth II install.

That completes the base install of Myth II. From the updater you can also choose to install the Map Making tools (Fear and Loathing). Additionally, if you would like to have the Myth II cutscenes, or to be able to play the Myth I solo and multiplayer levels, see the sections below about cutscenes, and Myth I. And if you would like to add some optional graphics upgrades to Myth, see Optional Graphics Upgrades. To setup multiplayer, see Multiplayer Setup.

Install From CDEdit

Run the installer from the Myth II CD, do a "large" install, then get the latest Myth II "Windows Installer" from Project Magma's downloads page (as of early 2014, it's version 1.8), and use that to update your Myth II install.

You will not need to have the CD in order to run Myth II after it's installed.

Optional Myth II CutscenesEdit

If you would like the cutscenes that Myth II will occasionally play, go to the Tain here and follow the instructions for downloading and installing the cutscenes. Note that these require that you have Apple's free QuickTime player installed.

Attention: These "high resolution" (compared to the originals) cutscenes can't be used on PowerPC Macs.

Optional Myth I: The Fallen LordsEdit

The first Myth game, Myth: The Fallen Lords, has not been kept up-to-date to run on current computers. However, all of it's content has been ported into Myth II, so you can have virtually the same experience of playing Myth I.

SingleplayerEdit

Go here, download the plugin, and put it into your "plugins" folder.

Optional MultiplayerEdit

The multiplayer maps from Myth I have been ported to Myth II, and they're good to have if you want to play online multiplayer, as most people have these. If you do not, you will not be able to join their games. Get it here
